LAMICTAL Acne
Side Effects
LAMICTAL was the first
FDA-approved medication for the long-term treatment of adults
with bipolar I disorder since lithium was approved in
1970.
Most people who take LAMICTAL
tolerate it well. Common side effects with LAMICTAL include
dizziness, headache, blurred or double vision, lack of
coordination, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, tremor,
and rash. One of the potential side effects of taking Lamictal
is acne. If you develop any side effects or symptoms you are
concerned about, or if you need more information, call your
doctor.
If you experience any of the
following with or without a skin rash, tell your doctor
immediately: hives, fever, swollen lymph glands, painful sores
in the mouth or around the eyes, or swelling of lips or tongue.
These symptoms may be the first signs of a serious reaction. A
doctor should evaluate your condition and decide if you should
continue taking LAMICTAL.
"I was on it
for a year and a half. The only thing I noticed was that my
normally clear skin would get a zit or two, now and again
(especially PMS time). Nothing really bad at all."

"My teenage
son takes Lamictal and his doctor put him on Minocycline which
is a low dose antibiotic that prevents acne scaring. The
Minocycline cleared up his acne but it did take a few
months."

"I was also
on this medication, and when dosing increased from 50 to 100
mg, I noticed HUGE breakouts. I stopped taking it and they have
subsided! There are other options for treating bipolar disorder
(what I assume you're taking it for, that's why I was on it.)
Talk to your prescriber, or see a dermatologist."
